From the recording Mauverneen

Lyrics

Mauverneen

A daughter of Irish and Scottish descent, the 4thchild in her family like me
She spoke of how they made do, as the lean years wore on
It was together her family pulled through
And they laughed and they fought and their passions ran high
As they sorted out dreams of their own
But they never lost sight, cause it mattered that much
Of the love in their family and home.

She fell deeply in love for the rest of her life, with a boy that she met at 16
Their dance fell into step, from the moment they met
Now she’s 60 yrs. his “mauverneen”
Her family took all of the time that she had, she gave up a life of her own
But she gladly made do, felt her dreams would come true
Through her children, and husband, and home.

And they laughed and they fought and their passions ran high
As they sorted out dreams of their own
But she never lost sight, cause it mattered that much
Of the love in her family and home.

Now her children have grown, and made lives of their own
And they gleaned all they could, as her daughters and sons
Such a generous heart, she could easily impart
How important they were to their mum
If you look in my eyes you might see my mother
If you look in my heart you will find her true
With her auburn hair, and a smile like no other
My mother,  my darlin’, my dear.
